How to use AI for marketing is three jobs, not a software rebuild: research you will act on, drafts a person still edits, and one follow-up loop. How to use AI in marketing, for a small Australian business, starts there. ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini can do the work. You stay on send.
I am Adam Stewart. I run Digital Bond, and I write for founder-led Australian businesses that have already “tried AI” and still start every campaign from memory.
This is the hub. Not a complete guide. Not a tool list. Three jobs: research, drafts, one follow-up loop.
I have made this argument before, as a systems problem rather than a model problem. If you want that version, read you don’t have an AI problem. This page is the practical map: what to hand the chat this week, and where the longer pieces live.
ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. I do not care which logo is on the tab. I care that the week ends with work a customer can see, and that a person still hits send.
How do I use AI for marketing if I am a small Australian business?
You use it the way you would use a sharp junior hire on a two-day trial. Give them the messy folder, the offer in one sentence, and what they must not invent. Ask for a first pass. Then you decide.
That is how to use AI for marketing when there is no ops team. Digital marketing, for a founder, is the same three jobs. Australian specifics matter more than the model. We spell optimise with an s. Customers search suburb names. Prices are GST-inclusive unless you say otherwise. A Melbourne plumber and a Brisbane wholesaler need different public facts, and the same habit.
Make the offer easy to repeat. Then ask the model to repeat it. If the offer takes a slide to explain, the model will invent one. Cut it until you would say it at a client lunch.
If you also care whether ChatGPT or Gemini would name you, that is a different test. SEO gets your page ranked, while AEO and GEO get your business named and recommended inside AI answers from ChatGPT, Gemini and Google’s AI Overviews. I defined that in what is answer engine optimisation. One line is enough here. This hub is the work inside the business.
Start with work you already do every week. Enquiries. A social post. A quote follow-up.
How do I use AI in marketing without buying a new stack this week?
Open the chat you already have. Paste the files you already trust. Use the email tool and the CRM you already pay for.
That is how to use AI in marketing without a procurement project. You do not need a new platform to research a competitor page, draft five captions, or write three follow-up emails you then load into the tool you have.
Buy software later, if the loop is named and the current tool cannot hold the trigger. I wrote how to choose marketing automation software for that decision. Do not start there. The stack question is how teams stall. Someone names a platform. The enquiry still sits in the inbox.
How do I use AI for market research I will actually act on?
Research you will not act on is a hobby.
Give the model something real. Emails from people who did not buy. Reviews. Sales notes. The competitor page that keeps winning.
Ask for groups, not a market size. What language do buyers use that we do not? Which objection shows up after the quote? What is easy on their site and fuzzy on ours? Label every claim: in the files, inferred, invented. Delete the third pile.
Then change one thing this fortnight. A sentence on the services page. A FAQ. A first-reply email. If the research does not change a page, a post or a follow-up, it was entertainment.
The ChatGPT walkthrough is in how to use ChatGPT for marketing. The Claude version is how to use Claude for marketing. Same job. Different window.
If you want the commercial test (would an assistant recommend you), use would ChatGPT recommend your business. That is visibility. This section is input for the week.
How do I use AI for social media marketing?
Drafts only. Ask for a batch tied to the one-page plan: real jobs, objections, reviews you may quote. Edit for voice and truth. Match the photo you have. Then you post.
That is how to use AI for social media marketing without turning the account into a brochure. The first draft will sound like everyone else. Your pass is the work. Do not auto-post. Five posts for the fortnight is enough.
How do I use AI for marketing strategy?
One page. Not a deck. Who we help, what we sell, the channel we already use, the proof we can point at, the action we want, and what we will ignore.
That is how to use AI for marketing strategy when you are the marketing team. If the model returns seven pillars, send it back. One offer, one audience, one channel, one fortnight. Write it so a junior hire could run it without calling you.
I would rather a blunt page you use on Thursday than a pretty funnel you present once. Write it once. Run it for a fortnight.
How do I use AI for email marketing as one follow-up loop?
Email is the loop in this hub. When a qualified enquiry arrives, they get a same-day reply, one follow-up if they go quiet, and a stop after the last planned touch. AI writes the variants. You approve the send.
Lead follow-up or abandoned enquiry. Three emails. Two waits. A stop when they reply, book, unsubscribe or say no. That is the loop. Not seven journeys.
I wrote the email slice in how to use AI for email marketing. Use that page to install the sequence. If you cannot name the trigger in a tool you already pay for, write the first reply by hand, with a draft from the chat.
Can AI replace a marketing team?
No. It can replace the blank page and the follow-up you keep postponing. It cannot replace the person who knows which review is public, which price is still true, and who should get a phone call.
A team of one with a tight loop will beat a team of five with a prompt library and no approval gate. I do not promise headcount savings. I promise less work stuck at 80 percent. If someone is selling you a replacement for the team, they are selling a demo.
How do I use AI in marketing without getting overwhelmed?
One job, then one loop. This week: research you will act on, or drafts you will post, or the first-reply email. Next week, add the piece you skipped. Then hang a follow-up loop on the trigger you already have.
“Use AI for everything” is a conference agenda. Narrow the access. The model gets the files for this job, not the whole drive. One-line policy if others will use the chat: AI may draft. A person approves send, publish and spend.
Try this:
I am a founder-led Australian business. I am not buying new software this week.
What we sell: [one sentence]
Who it is for: [who, where]
Channel I already use: [email / social / Google Business Profile / site]
Files I can paste: [reviews, enquiry emails, a competitor page, last month's notes]
What I will not invent: [stats, prices, results]
Pick ONE of these jobs and do only that job:
A. Market research I will act on
- Group buyer language and objections from the files.
- Label claims: seen, inferred, invented. Delete invented.
- Recommend one change I can make this fortnight (a page, a post, or a reply).
B. Drafts
- A one-page plan for the next fortnight (one offer, one audience, one channel).
- Five social posts and one first-reply email for that plan.
- Mark each: ready to use, needs a rewrite, or start again.
C. One follow-up loop
- Trigger, three emails, two waits, a stop.
- Three variants per email.
- What a person must approve before anything sends.
Do not give me a tool list. Do not give me a 40-page strategy. Australian English. I will review. I will hit send.
Run it once. Finish the job. Then open the matching slice already linked above if you want the longer version.
My honest read
My honest read: if you are treating this as a new career, you are already overcomplicating it. Three jobs. One chat you already have. A person on the last click. Do not buy a stack to avoid naming the work.
The guardrail does not change with the model. Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini can assemble the work. You still remain the judge.
FAQ
How do you use AI for marketing?
Use it for three jobs. Research you will act on, using files you already have. Drafts a person still edits (social, replies, a one-page plan). One follow-up loop, with AI on the variants and a human on send. ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. No new stack this week. That is the whole system.
How do you use AI in marketing?
The same three jobs, inside the week you already run. Paste real notes. Ask for groups, not invented numbers. Ask for drafts, not a published campaign. Hang one email sequence on a trigger you already have. How to use AI in marketing is a habit, not a department. Measure finished work, not chats started.
Which AI is best for marketing?
The one you will open on Tuesday. ChatGPT is the workbench most founders already have. Claude is often stronger on long, messy files and voice. Gemini is already in some Google tools. The brief, the files and the approval gate matter more than the logo. This is not a tools list. Do not run a bake-off instead of a fortnight.
Where should a small business start?
Start with one low-risk recurring task. A first-reply draft. Five social posts for an offer you can talk about. A three-email follow-up for new enquiries. Keep send, publish and spend in your own hands. Widen only after that job is boring. Follow-up is the usual first loop. Do not start with a stack rebuild.
Can AI replace a marketing team?
No. It can replace the blank page and the follow-up you keep postponing. It cannot replace judgement about offers, prices, which proof is public, and when to pick up the phone. A small team with one loop will beat a larger team that only collects prompts. Keep the human as the judge.
What to do this week
Pick one letter in the prompt. A, B or C.
Run it in the chat you already pay for. Claude, ChatGPT, the email loop and the software choice are already linked above. One job this week. Not all four.
Change one public thing, or send one approved follow-up, before you open another tab about AI.
If you want a wider view of acquisition, conversion, follow-up and measurement, the Digital Bond scorecard takes about four minutes and does not ask for an email.
If you want to install the systems with other founders, using your actual files, that is what AI Systems Lab is for. There is also an AI consultant page if you want a conversation rather than a community. Neither is required to finish the week.
You do not have an AI problem. You have a week to finish.
