How to use ChatGPT for marketing

How to use ChatGPT for marketing this week: research, a one-page plan, and social drafts. You stay on send. A weekly habit for Australian founders.

How to use ChatGPT for marketing is a three-job habit you run in the chat window: research the buyer from files you paste, write a one-page plan, and draft social posts a person still reviews. ChatGPT is the workbench for digital marketing this week. You stay on send, publish and spend.

I am Adam Stewart. I run Digital Bond, and I work with founder-led Australian businesses that already have a ChatGPT login and still start the week from a blank chat.

This is not a model review. It is a week you can finish. A person still hits send.

If you want ChatGPT to turn a conversation into a calendar, a tracker or a small app, that is a different job. I wrote that in build a marketing tool from a ChatGPT chat. This piece stays in the chat window: paste, search, draft. Not a builder.

For the wider map (research, drafts, one follow-up loop), start at how to use AI for marketing. This page is the ChatGPT slice.

How do I use ChatGPT for marketing this week?

Do not start with “write me a content strategy.”

Start with the week you are actually in.

Monday: feed it the truth. Your offer, who it is for, what happened last month, three reviews, the last email that got a reply. Paste the messy version. The polite version gets you a polite plan nobody runs.

Tuesday: ask for a one-page marketing plan for the next fortnight. One offer. One audience. One channel you already use. Two proofs you can point at. What you will not do.

Wednesday: ask for drafts. Three social posts, one email reply template, and a short FAQ in the customer’s words. Mark each one ready to use, needs a rewrite, or start again.

Thursday: you edit. You cut the adjectives. You put the suburb back in. You check the claim against a real job.

Friday: you send, post or book the ad yourself.

That is how to use ChatGPT for digital marketing as a weekly habit, not a weekend project. The model does the first pass. The founder does the last pass. If you skip the last pass, you have published a stranger’s version of your business.

How do I use ChatGPT for market research I can trust?

Market research is the job most people hand to ChatGPT first, and the job it is most willing to invent.

Treat it as a sorter, not a census.

Paste a file or the messy text. Support emails. Google reviews (yours and a competitor’s). Sales-call notes. Your page and the competitor page you keep losing to.

Then ask it to group, not to guess. What do buyers repeat? What do they misunderstand? Which objections show up after the quote? Where is your public story thinner than theirs?

Ask it to label every claim. Seen in the files. Inferred. Invented. Delete the third pile.

ChatGPT can search the web when you need a public fact. Use that for “what do they say on their homepage,” not for “how big is this market in Australia.” If you did not bring a number, do not let it mint one.

Then run the buyer test I keep coming back to. Ask ChatGPT the question a customer would ask at 9.40pm. See who it names, and why. I wrote the commercial version in would ChatGPT recommend your business. The research job here is simpler. Can it describe what you sell without making you flinch?

If the answer is no, you do not need more prompts. You need clearer public facts.

How do I use ChatGPT for marketing strategy without a 40-page deck?

A marketing plan that needs a meeting to explain is not a plan. It is a delay.

Ask for one page: who we help, what we sell in a sentence they would recognise, the channel we already own this fortnight, the proof we can point at, the one action we want, and what we will ignore until the loop is boring.

That is strategy a founder can run between jobs. Not a transformation programme.

If ChatGPT hands you seven pillars and a funnel diagram, send it back.

Too wide. Cut this to one offer, one audience, one channel, and a fortnight. Write it so a junior hire could run it without calling me.

The plan is finished when someone else could execute it on Thursday while you are on site.

If you cannot say that sentence, you do not have a marketing plan. You have a brainstorm.

How do I prompt ChatGPT for marketing so it keeps our voice?

Voice dies in the first generic prompt.

“Write a LinkedIn post about our services” will sound like every other services business in your suburb. That is not a model problem. That is an empty brief.

Give it four things: a sample of you (two emails you sent, a paragraph you still like, a review in the customer’s words), a ban list of brochure words, the facts that must stay true, and the job of the piece (a next step, not “engagement”).

Then ask it to write like the samples. Australian spelling. Real place names. GST-inclusive if you talk price.

When the draft arrives, do not polish the adjectives. Cut them. Put back the sentence you would say at a client lunch. If it still sounds like a press release, the sample was too polished. Paste a Slack message next time.

How do I use ChatGPT for social media marketing without posting the first draft?

ChatGPT for social media marketing is a draft factory. It is not a publisher.

The first draft is a sketch. Treat it that way.

Ask for a batch, not a masterpiece. Five posts for the fortnight. Each one: a real job, a real objection, or a real proof. A last line that points at one action. A note on the asset you already have.

Then the human pass. Would you say this to a customer? Is the claim true this month? Does the photo match? If any answer is no, it does not go up.

Do not connect ChatGPT to a scheduler and walk away. Draft on Wednesday, edit on Thursday, post on Friday. The calendar can live in a note. A shared calendar other people can run is the tool-building job, not this one.

How do I use ChatGPT for email marketing drafts?

Email is a draft job in this article. The loop lives next door.

Use ChatGPT to write the first reply to a website enquiry, and the second follow-up for people who went quiet. Three variants. Short. One next step. Then stop. Do not paste a twelve-step nurture into a tool you have not named.

The sequence, the wait, the stop and the approval gate are how to use AI for email marketing. This page only writes the words. ChatGPT drafts. You send.

Should ChatGPT publish, send, or spend for me?

No. Draft the caption, the reply, the ad angle. You post, send and set the budget.

I stay cheap on mistakes you cannot unsay. A wrong price in a sent email is a refund conversation. A confident ad that spends overnight on the wrong offer is a Friday you do not get back.

ChatGPT will sound sure. Sounding sure is not judgement, and it is not permission. If a feature offers to send, post or connect a payment method, leave it off. One line for the team: AI may draft. A person approves anything that leaves the building.

Is Claude better than ChatGPT for marketing, or do I use both?

Use the one you will open on Tuesday. I am not picking a winner. ChatGPT is the workbench most founders already have. Claude is often the better editor on long, messy files. Gemini is already in some Google tools.

The model is half the story. The brief, the files and the approval gate are the other half.

If you want the Claude version of this habit, I wrote how to use Claude for marketing. Same three jobs. Same human on send. Do not run a bake-off for a fortnight. Pick one chat. Run the week.

Try this:

I run a founder-led Australian business.

What we sell: [one sentence]
Who it is for: [who, where]
What I will not do: [out of scope]
Proof I can point at: [reviews, jobs, process]
Channel I already use: [Instagram / email / Google Business Profile / LinkedIn]
Voice samples are pasted below. Keep this voice. Australian spelling. No brochure words.

Do three jobs, in this order:

1. Market research I can trust
- Use only the files and notes I pasted.
- Group buyer language, objections, and gaps vs the competitor page I included.
- Label every claim: seen in the files, inferred, or invented. Delete the invented ones.

2. A one-page marketing plan for the next fortnight
- One offer, one audience, one channel.
- The action I want, and what we will ignore.
- Write it so a junior hire could run it without calling me.

3. Drafts
- Five social posts for that plan.
- One first-reply email for a website enquiry.
- One quiet-lead follow-up.

For each draft, mark: ready to use, needs a rewrite, or start again.
Do not invent stats, prices, or results. Do not publish, send, or spend. I will review and I will hit send.

Paste a real week. A messy week. The clean version will get you a clean plan that sits in the chat.

My honest read

My honest read: if you already pay for ChatGPT and marketing still depends on you remembering to start, you do not need a better prompt pack. You need one week that ends with research you trust, a one-page plan, and drafts a person posted. Do not let the model send, publish or spend.

The guardrail is the last click. ChatGPT can assemble the work. You still remain the judge.

FAQ

How do you use ChatGPT for marketing?

Use it for three jobs in one week. Feed it real notes and run market research you can check. Turn that into a one-page marketing plan (one offer, one audience, one channel). Then draft social posts and a first-reply email. A person edits and hits send. That is the whole system. Not a new stack.

Can ChatGPT write a marketing plan?

Yes, if you constrain it. Ask for one page for the next fortnight, not a 40-page deck. One offer, one audience, one channel you already use, proof you can point at, and a list of what you will ignore. If a junior hire could not run it without calling you, it is still a brainstorm.

Can I use ChatGPT for social media marketing?

Yes, as a draft tool. Ask for a batch of posts tied to a real job, objection or review. Edit for voice, truth and the asset you actually have. Then you post. Do not let ChatGPT, or a plugin, publish the first draft. Social is where generic copy is most obvious, and where a wrong claim travels fastest.

Should ChatGPT send emails or post for me?

No. ChatGPT should draft. You should send, post and set any spend. A confident sentence is not permission. Leave auto-send and auto-post off until the draft habit is boring, and even then keep a person on the last click. Mistakes in a sent email or a live ad are harder to unsay than a rewrite.

Is Claude better than ChatGPT for marketing, or do I use both?

Use the chat you will actually open. ChatGPT is enough for research, a plan and social drafts. Claude is often stronger on long, messy files and voice. You do not need both this week. Open one window. Run the week. Same three jobs either way. The approval gate does not change.

What to do this week

Pick one offer you can talk about without a slide.

Paste the messy truth into ChatGPT. Run the prompt above.

Leave the week with a one-page plan and five drafts you are willing to put your name on.

Post or send two of them yourself.

If you want a wider view of the system around this (acquisition, conversion, follow-up, measurement), the Digital Bond scorecard takes about four minutes and does not ask for an email.

You do not need a new model.

You need a week that finishes.
